Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy is physiotherapy and exercise in warm water. The buoyancy and warmth of the water allows for freer movement than on land, so you can exercise with ease for health, rehabilitation, and wellbeing without placing additional pressure on your joints.

Hydrotherapy can be beneficial for many people:

  • Arthritis sufferers can benefit from the increased freedom of movement, as well as the heat and support provided by warm water. Arthritic joints need movement, and hydrotherapy provides movement without pain to improve the short-term and long-term effects of arthritic joints.
  • Elderly population who are less confident on their feet can benefit greatly from the warmth and support of the water without the fear of falling and injuring themselves. Increasing balance and muscular strength in a safe environment before transferring to land-based exercise programs.

Due to water buoyancy, walking and movement is easier in water than it is on land. Hydrotherapy also provides an even, compressive force around the joint to minimise swelling and improve mobility. This can lead to a much faster recovery, allowing you to return to your everyday activities sooner.
